This years radio dxpedition was to the Island of Crete in the company of my wife Meg (G7FRE, N2NQI), Walt (G3NYY) and Tim (G4VXE). Operation took place from the shack of Manos, SV9ANJ at his Pela Mare apartment complex. We managed to book accomodation directly with Manos and arrange charter flights directly from London Gatwick to Iraklion. His Icom 706 and the IC706 brought along by G4VXE were used with the resident Windom Antenna. For RTTY QSOS an IBM 755 Thinkpad with internal Wave sound board was used along with the K6STI DSP program and the WF1B logging program. This was problematic at times as it was necessary to set the K6STI baud rate on receive to 50 to receive at 45 Baud then change it back to 45Baud to transmit at 45Baud, this had to be done for all 101 QSOS! This was attributed to only having a 133MHz Pentium in the thinkpad. The centre of the antenna is supported from the building in the middle of the picture above.
The QSO breakdown of SV9/G4FRE/P was a total of 1362 of which 1254 were
CW, 101 were RTTY and 7 were PSK31. There were no Phone QSOS.
